Last weeks mission san antonio
I rode the bus to the San Pedro library one day this week. I parked under the UTSA Park and Ride to take the 93 Bus to Crossroads Transit Center. I jumped off the bus there and tried to go to a bus that had already situated itself in the parking zone for buses. I attempted to ask if their bus or what bus goes to the North Star Transit Center. The operator looked like he was busy; there was a crowd around his bus so I decided to go inside and check the pamphlets. To my surprise there was a large tablet type screen with the bus information on it. It showed what buses stopped there and when they would be arriving, as well as, the next buses arrival time.
I walked out of the door opposite of which I came and I saw a bus, I believe that went to Randolph Park & Ride which is on the East side of town. The lady instructed me after questioning that this bus does go to North Star Mall Transit Center. So I put my 7 day bus pass into the machine and I was on my way.
When I arrived at the North Star Transit Center I immediately got onto the San Pedro number 3 and took it down to the San Pedro Library. Now I was searching for a book in particular that I could read since I am now retired from the Army and I don’t want to sit around the house all day. I am also into mission work and the book I was looking for provided information about God and mission and “Going ye forth and preaching the gospel to the ends of the earth”.
I read the first chapter of the book and it described how Billy Graham was living on a dairy farm and how hard work was to his satisfaction and his parents didn't complain about it either. They were just hard workers. The stock market crashed but there was no anxiety for them because they sold their milk from the dairy cows. Now that I think about it, in the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, NC, there is a cow in the first section of the library. Those cows were there saving grace even when he describes the milk prices getting to 5 cents which were low prices at that time.
The second day I read the book he explained how his father was always laughing and making jokes. How he had a dry sense of humor and he would always make the neighbors laugh. Billy Graham talked about his brush with the president after the president saw him at one of Reverend Graham's rallys. If you don’t know about Billy Graham, he is a famous preacher who preached in the mid-20th century with crowds in the 10s of thousand or more. He spoke in giant sports stadiums.
He described how he would not quote people in powerful heads of state after he made that mistake with the media on the front lawn of the white house after his visit with the president. He also used this when talking to Kim Jong-il, the previous dictator of North Korea. Kim Jong-il's mother was a christian surprisingly but he was a dictator of a communist country which primarily is atheistic in nature according to the Marxist-Lenninist paradigm.
I saw a document on Kim Jong-il’s successor (Kim Jong-Un. Apparently he is very paranoid because he travels underground under mountains and tunnels to get to his castle that is not seen by satellites. He grew up around special forces soldiers and they were his friends as one previous soldier spoke out. There was something with a woman of the family running certain aspects of the government. She had some people killed as it was stated in the documentary.
Last day of the bus ride I took a trip to North San Antonio where the rich people live. There were all kinds of ethnicities that rode that bus. Latino and white is what I saw. May God Bless America.
Saturday I went to church and Sunday I fed the homeless. I took my truck to downtown with tacos. At the usual spot by the transit center behind the jail there were hardly any people. I made a loop around and by the jail and by Haven for Hope Homeless Shelter and back to the transit center there. I parked by the side and walked across the street to the property. I handed one pair of tacos to a man on a bike then I noticed the security coming out. I suspected he was not happy. I was going to continue.I wanted to respect what he was protecting and did not want to step on any toes, so I asked him if it was ok to be handing food out there. He shook his head no, so I said thank you respectfully and left.
I drove and meandered through downtown and found a man walking. Be careful with one-way streets, they can be tricky in any downtown area. You have to be more cognizant of the signs there. I say this because I took a right on a one way street and had to take an immediate u-turn. Luckily it was Sunday and not much traffic; just a car and a bus that was a little down the way. I executed the u-turn. Now I don’t recommend the Nissan Frontier as a good u-turn executor if you were to rent a car during your missions. Just don’t make U-Turns if at all possible. There are too many ways to be at fault. I executed a U-turn before from the middle lane and went into the driveway and back onto the 5-lane road and I got hit from the side here in San Antonio, Texas. Texas State Law according to the Castle Hills Police was that I was at fault. But no harm no foul the man, praise God, didn’t file a claim. There was just a scrape on his mirror.
I fed the man I was turning around for. He said, “Thank you, young man.” I took that as a compliment. He was wearing headphones, but they either weren’t on or he had them low. So, I just asked him if he wanted something to eat. I had about 10 tacos left. So, I drove around some more and found a church with people waiting outside. I parked by them. I yelled out the window, “Does anyone want tacos?” The only problem with that is, I didn't have enough for everyone so some people were left out that asked for one. I just had to say sorry. They were kind and of order. There were blacks, latinos, and whites; females and males.
